Alten Hulme

Alten graduated from UCT in 1982 with a B.Sc in civil engineering. After completing military service and a spell with the Department of Water Affairs (mostly on big construction), he started working in the building environment. Initially he worked both in-office and on-site in London during 1988 & 1989 and then began full-time consulting in Cape Town in 1990. After a long internship with a leading Cape Town consulting firm where he worked on a diverse range of projects, Alten broke away to start Hulme & Associates in 1998.
Paul Borton
PrTechEng B. Tech
Paul graduated from Cape Technikon in 1993 with a National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering (Cum Laude). He completed practical training on site with a civil engineering contractor before starting to work in the consulting environment in 1994. In 1998 he graduated, again Cum Laude, with a Baccalaureus Technologiae Degree in Civil Engineering. While most of his experience is local, he did gather international experience during a spell in London in 1996. Paul has been with Hulme & Associates since 2003 and became an associate in 2009.
Gert Grobler
Tech Eng
Gert graduated with a National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1983 from the Cape Technikon. Two long spells of more than 10 years each with leading Cape Town consulting firms have allowed him to build up considerable experience in the built environment. Projects he has worked on range from very small pergola elements to the Greenpoint Soccer stadium for the 2010 soccer world cup. He is able to use first principals as well as design software packages to progress his work and is competent in a range of building materials. Gert has been with Hulme & Associates since March 2016.
Tim van Wieringen
B.Sc Eng
After graduating from Stellenbosch University in 2014 with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Tim gained practical experience with a civil contractor focusing on a diverse range of civil construction works including roads, service provision and demolition. It was with his addition to the team of a prominent Cape Town based consulting firm that Tim’s attention was captured by the field of structural engineering, where he was involved in a number of unique projects during his tenure. Tim joined Hulme & Associates in 2018.
